Nitro Circus the Movie 3D Review

I just watched the Nitro Circus movie in 3D DVD with my brother and 11 year old nephew, and it was amazing! Like I love boards, my brother loves dirt and motors. While Nitro Circus doesn't have very much skateboarding in it (only like 2 quick stunts), it does feature a lot of very funny and insightful commentary from Rob Dyrdek, Ryan Sheckler and Bob Burnquist (plus Travis Pastrana married pro skater Lyn-Z Adams Hawkins, so that makes him a part of the family).

I've enjoyed the other Nitro Circus videos that I've seen. Travis Pastrana has pulled together a great group of stunt men and women, and their videos are a thrill to watch!

The movie was in theaters for just one week back in November, 2012, and now you can own it at home. The movie is 92 minutes long, and in 3D. The 3D is a little unnecessary, but it does look cool - especially at the beginning and the end.

The movie features stunts by Travis Pastrana, Jolene Van Vugt, Gregg Godfrey, Tommy Passemante (AKA Streetbike Tommy), Jeremy Rawle, Erik Roner, Jim DeChamp, Greg Powell (AKA Special Greg), and many more.

The movie is more than just stunts. The Nitro Circus movie starts with the early days, showing short clips introducing each athlete and some of their better remembered students from previous videos. The story builds up to the debut of the Nitro Circus LIVE show in Las Vegas.

The video also features commentary from some of the biggest names in skateboarding. Rob Dyrdek talks a lot about how crazy these guys are (and he should know, having his own crazy stunt show!). Ryan Sheckler gives lots of commentary as well, mostly simply saying that the Nitro Circus crew is insane. Bob Burnquist even jumps in with some commentary!

There are other well known people as well. Channing Tatum is interviewed a lot, and I never got any reason why HE was involved. My favorite was all of Johnny Knoxville's comments - especially when he points out that in Jackass, all of the students were designed to fail, but in Nitro Circus, you either succeed or you die!

The show is PACKED with entertaining stunts, from a human Angry Birds game to jumping across from the top of one 60 story building to another. The human element is really well done, including stories about things like the stuntman "Wheels" who insists that instead of being in a wheelchair, he "rides" a wheelchair! After seeing Wheels make an insane jump while doing a backflip, and landing perfectly, my 11 year old nephew said, "It really makes you think that you really CAN do anything, huh?"

There's also harsher scenes, the worst being Jim DeChamp's injury during a car stunt. He ended up hospitalized with extremely serious injury, and you see the rest of the team dealing with the pain and loss.

The final part showing the live show in Vegas is extremely exciting, though surprisingly short. It feels at that point a little like a commercial for the live show, but you do get to see most of the best stunts from the show.

In all, I strongly recommend the Nitro Circus the Movie 3D DVD. The 3D is a cool extra feature, especially in the very beginning, but not necessary. Overall, I think that most skaters and fans of action sports and "extreme" anything will really enjoy this movie.
