The terms "backside" and "frontside" get pretty confusing in skateboarding, and a lot of times they are used inconsistently. Don't worry about it. All you need to know now is which way you want to learn to Shuvit first. I recommend learning the Backside Shuvit first.
You can learn the Backside Shuvit first, and then go on to learn the Backside Pop Shuvit, or you can learn both Frontside Shuvit and Backside Shuvit first, then go on to Pop Shuvits. Either way works fine. If you already know how to ollie, I would recommend focusing on the Backside Shuvit, and then the Backside Pop Shuvit. Once you have those tricks dialed in, you can go on to learn Frontside. If you don't know how to ollie, then just focus on Shuvits, and figure out the Pop Shuvits once you know how to ollie.
Either way, in a Shuvit, you shouldn't spin at all. But your BOARD will spin backside or frontside. For a Frontside Shuvit, the board will spin clockwise if you are a regular skater, and counter-clockwise is you are goofy.
