Learning how to 180 ollie on your skateboard is a great next step after you've learned how to ollie. A 180 ollie is where you pop up into the air, just like in an ollie, but you and your skateboard spin 180 degrees and land rolling in the opposite direction than you were just going (riding this way is called "fakie". Read more about skate terms in the Skate Tricks section of the Skate Dictionary). 180 ollies are usually called simply "180s".

Before learning how to 180 ollie, you need to know:

  • How to ride a skateboard. Just general riding, how to stop, turn, etc. You don't need to be amazing yet, just confident and comfortable. You should be able to keep your balance while riding fakie, too, since that's how you land after a 180.
  • How to ollie. You should be able to ollie at least the height of a curb, but higher is better. If you can ollie, but it is still too low, read How can I make my ollies higher?
The 180 ollie can be done frontside and backside, and they are both very similar. For these instructions, I'm going to start by walking you through frontside 180's, since I think they're easier.

So, go ahead and read through these 180 ollie instructions, take your time, and make sure they make sense to you. Once you feel ready, grab up your skateboard head out and learn to 180 ollie!
