- Know the basics of skateboarding
- know the basics of ramp riding
- know how to drop in switch (after the trick is over, you will be dropping in in the switch position)
- nose manual
First off, you will need enough speed to get to the coping of the ramp you are riding on. But, like usual with lip tricks, you need to make sure you don't have too much speed. Figuring this out is tough, and don't worry if you don't judge very well right away - just relax and take your time.
You want to be riding directly up the ramp, or close to it. If you come from too much of an angle, you will want to slide along the coping - which is a different trick!
As you are riding up the ramp, you want to nose manual and lean up into the edge. It's like you will be popping yourself up, out and over the edge - almost. You want to manual your way up, as you approach the top edge of the ramp, and take yourself in one smooth motion into the nose stall position.
Once you are there, you can drop back in and keep riding - though you will be riding fakie at this point.
If you are going to be trying this on a half pipe, please make sure you are comfortable with all of the required skills listed above. They are important! If you are trying this on a mini ramp, you won't need to worry as much about the manual, and dropping in should be a lot easier and less dangerous. In fact, if the ramp is a really small one, you might feel confident trying to tweak the nose stall like you would with the flatland version.
I hope these instructions help you out - as always, take your time, wear a helmet, and have fun!
