The Nollie is basically an ollie off the nose of your skateboard. So, instead of popping up the tail, you'll be popping up off the nose. The Nollie isn't a difficult trick to learn - in fact, some people find learning to nollie easier than learning to ollie!

Before you learn to nollie though, here's what I think you should know how to do:

  • Ride a Skateboard - this might seem basic, but a lot of new skaters hurl themselves at tricks before they're even comfortable riding a skateboard!
  • Ollie - you don't technically need to be able to ollie before you can nollie, but it will make things a lot easier if you do. A lot of these instructions will make a lot more sense if you have your ollies dialed in first. But, if you want to jump right in, that's ok!
  • Rolling Ollies - again, you don't need to know how to do this, but it will help you. If you have your ollies and rolling ollies down, then you will have a much easier time learning to nollie.
  • How to Fall - there's a good chance you'll pitch yourself onto your face or backside while learning this, and knowing how to do that, while getting hurt as little as possible, is a good idea!
Otherwise, all you need is yourself and your skateboard. You can practice nollies pretty much anywhere. Sidewalks, your driveway or garage, at the skatepark, in your parent's bedroom...

One last thing - I suggest you read through ALL of these instructions, maybe a few times, before you head out to try it. Make sure you can picture doing the trick in your mind. That will help a lot. Then once you're ready, go nollie!
