Nuclear Pickle

The Bottom Line

The Nuclear Pickle by Flowlab is a longboard with adjustable trucks and a low hanging deck. The Nuclear Pickle rides smoothly, and the construction of the board and the torsion of the trucks allows for some deep dipping, while the flexibility of the deck gives good feedback. The board does have some issues - the deck isn't the strongest, so heavier or more aggressive riders will need to be aware, and the setup doesn't look very serious. But all in all, the Nuclear Pickle is a good longboard.

Pros

  • Trucks are quick and easy to adjust, from tight to loose (three settings)
  • Dipped construction of the board allows for deeper carving than most longboards

Cons

  • The wood of the deck isn't the highest grade, and can crack under heavy strain
  • The bright green colors and the profile of the board don't look serious

Description

  • 3-way adjustable truck set (tight, medium, loose)
  • Quick, easy adjustment of trucks possible without tools
  • Low hanging wood deck keeps rider close to the ground
  • Board comes pre-covered in black griptape
  • Clear green urethane wheels compatible with regular skateboard wheels

Guide Review - Nuclear Pickle Review

When I first pulled the Nuclear Pickle longboard out of it's box, I thought it looked like a toy. The trucks are large and clunky-looking, with plastic green rings for adjusting tightness. The wheels are clear green, and the whole setup looked like something you might pick up at Toys R Us instead of a skate or surf shop.

But thankfully, looks were deceiving. The Nuclear Pickle longboard was fun to ride, with deep springy carving. The adjustable trucks were nice to have as well - you can have them set for riding around town, but then tighten them up for large hills. Although, I wouldn't recommend hitting very extreme hills - the Nuclear Pickle longboard is designed mostly for flowing and carving.

The Nuclear Pickle longboard's reversed trucks and the strange deck design keeps the rider's feet closer to the ground, while still giving enough room to use your weight on turns. The board is springy and comfortable, but not the strongest. For most skaters it should work just fine, but if you consider yourself heavy, you might want to be more careful when flinging your weight into turns.

The Nuclear Pickle is an interesting creation that has some unique ideas and will give a comfortable ride. It looks a little odd, but for what it's designed for, it works well.
