The Bottom Line
Pros
- Fiberglass layers add strength and protect deck images
- Power pockets, fiberglass, and other features add strength and pop
- Wood core keeps some of the features of the traditional deck
Cons
- Sometimes these decks can de-laminate
- If the deck is chiped just right, the fiberglass can jut out and be dangerous. This is rare, though
Description
- Fiberglass layer on the top and bottom of the board
- Semislick bottom makes for smooth slides
- "Power pockets" let the trucks mount flush against the deck
Guide Review - LIB Tech OG Decks
The deck also features "power pockets", little dents that end up under the trucks, which let the trucks mount flush against the deck. A lot of skate deck manufacturures like to brag about thier decks being stronger, or having more pop, but Lib Technologies decks actualy deliver.
Sound great? They are, but some skaters report that they've had thier LIB Tech decks de-laminate badly. Also, oddly enough, with all of these awesome features, Lib Tech OG boards have had some pretty plain graphics.
Now of course this doesn't really matter, but when the graphic is being protected under a layer of fiberglass, you're never going to get rid of it! All the graphics are pretty minimalistic, so if you're into that, then you should be able to find something you like.
The bottom line is that Lib Technologies still offers a remarkable deck way ahead of most decks out there, for the same price you might get a wood deck. However, for many skaters wood is more comfortable, more natural. I say that if you have the chance, a LIB Tech deck is definately worth a try. So next time you crack your board, try out a Lib Tech deck, and feel the difference yourself.
