In this review we take a look at Chocolate skateboarding wheels, in particular the Skulls series, matched up with the Chocolate Chunk skateboard deck series, and I give 4 reasons why I like these skateboarding wheels. Chocolate Skateboards has a huge selection of skating gear, and a great team of pro skateboarders who help make their already good skateboarding gear look even better.
Chocolate Wheels
A lot of skaters may feel that all wheels are pretty much the same - this couldn't be more wrong. Wheels can be made from different materials, with different treads, sizes, and plenty of wheels out there now have unique bearing chamber systems and other gimmicks to try and gain an edge.
Chocolate wheels are fairly straight forward, with no special formulas or crazy cut shapes. These wheels are standard urethane, the same as most every other good quality skate wheel out there. They will work, they will get you from here to there, they will carry you as you kickflip your way to freedom.
Skulls Series
The Skulls series is matched up with the Chocolate Chunk deck series - check out the Chunk deck series review. These wheels are, in my opinion, the best looking wheels Chocolate has to offer. Which is convenient, since I didn't ask for them by name!
Why I Like These Wheels - Reason One
They have a simple, comfortable look. Take a look at the pictures to see what I mean. These wheels are white, with a white, yellow or red background and the script "Chocolate" running around the bearings. A "cute" Jolly Roger sits to the side of the bearing with the size printed in the oversized skull. I feel effeminate using the word cute, but really, the little skull is ... well, it's cute. But it's a cute SKULL! These wheels are good, comfortable, simple and yet there's a skull and crossbones to make my inner pirate feel at home. Why I like These Wheels - Reason Two
They have tread. Tread on skate wheels isn't rare or anything, but it sucks when you are looking for slicks and get wheels with tread, or vice versa. I'm a tread kinda guy, and so these wheels make me happy.
Why I Like These Wheels - Reason Three
They are small. The three sizes are 50mm (red), 51mm (white) and 52mm (yellow). Small wheels are great for street skating and doing tricks, and are the more popular sizes people use.Bottom Line
These wheels are worth your cash. As far as skateboard wheels go, they don't have any special gimmicks - they are simply good quality, good looking, good sized wheels. And while you're at it, pick up a Chocolate Chunk deck to go with your sexy new wheels and a copy of the Hot Chocolate DVD to keep you warm while it snows outside.
