DC H2Zero Motive Shoes

The Bottom Line

Motives are a new addition to DCs H2Zero lineup. These shoes are made to be water, snow, slush, mud and dirt resistant. DC has gone a step further though - the last lineup of H2Zero shoes worked great, but the Motive incorporates even more, with sharp viscous traction for any weather and a Velcro strap that seals in the foot, the H2Zero Motive is truly an all-weather skate shoe.
Pros
  • Water Resistant! These shoes are designed and treated to withstand rain, snow, slush, mud, etc.
  • Sole is designed for optimal grip in all weather, on snow and ice as well as concrete
  • Of all of the H2Zero shoes, the Motives look the coolest, and have the most edge
Cons
  • The tread is great for snow, ice and pavement, but not optimal for skating.
  • Fairly little arch support, like most DC shoes. If you have huge arches, you'll want the inserts.

Description

  • Water resistant - the H2Zero treatment is a re-engineering of the shoe to resist water, snow, mud...
  • Adjustable Velcro closure seals foot in for more comfort and to keep water out
  • Sole is designed for maximum anti-slip grip on ice, mud, slush, and pavement
  • Shoe is still skatable, with all the original Motive's design
  • Tread rolls up on toe and outside of foot for more board and pavement grip
  • Laces are heavy duty cord laces, built to last
  • Breathable water-resistant side panels help keep the foot cool in warmer weather
  • Heel airbag absorbs shock
  • Medium padded tongue, padded heel collar and Performalite padded midsole all add comfort
  • Available in flat black, bright yellow with black and gray, or blue with black, white and gray

Guide Review - H2Zero Motive All-Weather Skate Shoe Review

The H2Zero treatment is more than a simple spray. The shoes go through a total re-design, and the H2Zero Motive is a good example. The regular Motive is a good looking skate shoe, with a strong leather or nubuck upper, performalite midsole and multi-tone sole design. What's that all mean? The Motive is a great skate shoe.

The H2Zero version includes a water-resistant CODURA tongue and upper panel that's completely connected - there's no separate tongue. This helps keep water from seeping in. The H20 motive also includes a Velcro strap that seals in freshness and keeps your foot dry. The side panels, the leather, everything about the shoe is redesigned to keep out water.

But that's not the only re-design. The sole has undergone quite a change. The H20 Motive's sole is the trademark DC pill pattern, but the edges of the pills are raised like saw teeth in both directions, adding grip and stopping slip perfect for snow, ice and mud. The edges of the teeth are sharp, and not perfect for skating, but not necessarily bad, either. The H2Zero Motive would be perfect for snow-skating.

But is it a good shoe for regular skateboarding? That's a good question - I think that other, true skate shoes would be a better bet, but the H2Zero Motive does ride ok. If you can afford it, this shoe would be a perfect winter / mud shoe, while you used a pair of dedicated skate shoes for skateboarding. Something like the regular Motive would work great!
