Powell Mag Letters Skateboard Deck Review

The Bottom Line

Powell skateboard decks are high quality, American made boards. For this review, I tried out the Powell Skateboards Mag Letters skateboard deck - it features the Skate One K-12 "Hella Concave", basically average specs, and the Powell warranty. The graphics are the name Powell spelled out from different letters ripped from skateboarding magazine titles.
Pros
  • High quality Skate One manufacturing - all in the USA
  • Deep concave adds strength and pop
Cons
  • Graphics are interesting, but a little bland

Description

  • Made in the USA
  • Deep "K-12" concave
  • 32.125" long for the red, 31.75" for the gray, 31.375" long for the green
  • 8.0" wide for the red, 7.75 wide for the gray, 7" wide for the green

Guide Review - Powell Mag Letters Skateboard Deck Review

The Powell Mag Letters skateboard deck is a good board. It's composed of seven plies of 100% American hard rock maple, and manufactured by Skate One in Santa Barbara, California, USA. You don't need to worry about this board coming from overseas, or anything like that.

The graphic is the Powell name, with different letters ripped from different magazine titles. For example, the O is from Transworld (as is the W and first L, I think). The E is from Thrasher. The last L is from Slap. Stuff like that. There are three color patterns you can pick from - Red (pictured here), or gray, or green. On the Gray and Green boards, the letter they picked for O also changes. Right above the W is a picture of a shipping label, with the Powell Skateboards name and address. Over all, I like the graphic. I didn't at first - I thought it looked a little ugly - but it's grown on me. I like the pulling from all over skateboarding, and the unity. Plus, with the controversy around where your skateboards come from, having that "Made in the USA" guarantee can be nice.

Plus, you get the Powell skateboards warranty against delamination and what not. Now, don't go busting your board in half and expecting any replacements - this is just against anything that shouldn't have happened. Boards break - that's just part of the game.

So, in all, I would recommend this board. It doesn't bring anything new to the table, and it doesn't promote any particular pro (for some people, this is a good thing). But, it is a good board, rides well, I didn't have any problems with it, and the graphic is fun. Basic, but fun. Take a look at one at your local skate shop, and give it a shot!
