Ricta 78s Skateboarding Wheels Review

Ricta have been making wheels for a little over five years, and in this short time span they have really figured things out. The Ricta 78’s are a hard-cored, soft wheel, sometimes called jelly wheels, that are designed perfectly for what there used for, just cruising, I repeat, JUST cruising, these are a specially designed jelly wheel specifically for transportation, not sport.
The first time you step on your board and push, you’ll immediately feel how amazingly smooth and fast these jelly wheels truly are; you’ll feel like a ninja as you silently fly down any street you call your own. But be warned, these jelly wheels are not for the destructive. I learned the hard way that if you want your Ricta 78s to have a long fulfilling life, don’t street skate. I know how hard it is not to street skate, especially with how smooth these jelly wheels will make your street skating style become. It’s not worth it though, purely street skating these will break your Ricta 78s down within 6 months.

With most wheels you must sacrifice durability for traction and speed. Now I’m the type of skater that busts 180’s down any gap I can Ollie, unfortunately this twisting force on the wheels will literally peel them off of the hard-core, resulting in many curse words and thrown objects. Even simple power slides, over time are enough to rip the jelly right off. If you want a good street skating wheel from Ricta, I would suggest Ricta Boltz measured at 83B urethane, a lot tougher and harder, perfect for street skating.

The best use for Ricta 78s are to throw them on a cruiser board used for just heading down to the market, or all way across town. If you want to head to the skate park you're in luck, because by the time you get to park you wont even be winded. A friend and I experimented and found that one push with Ricta 78s is equal to four pushes with regular wheels. Once at the skate park you’ll be able to destroy any thing in your way with style and control - however, park skating is pretty much the same as street skating, so you still run the risk of destroying your jelly wheels. If you’re into filming they're also a great investment. Ricta 78s are so smooth I guarantee your target will be in frame and un-shaky every time, especially if you're at the park on the smooth concrete.

All in all these are a great set of wheels, but only if you a got a little extra cash lying around and a need to go fast.
