Momentum has been making skateboard wheels for just over 10 years, and has a strong, established skateboarding team. For this review, I tried out a set of the Momentum Skull Attack Series, and I wasn't disappointed.

Momentum Wheels - The Basics

At their basic level, Momentum Skateboard Wheels are simply good quality urethane wheels. Not a lot of hype goes into making them - they're made of the same grade urethane as most other skateboard wheels.

That doesn't mean they are bad - it means that at the most basic level, you are getting good wheels with Momentum. Nothing shocking, no special secret forumla, no promise of never flat spotting or anything like that. But, if you've skated long, you know that a lot of promises like that aren't true ...

So if you are bitter about buying "high tech" wheels that don't pay off, or if you are trying to spend a more reasonable amount of money, or if you just want a set of wheels that you KNOW will work, and that have a nice style and are made in Canada, then check out Momentum.

Momentum Wheels - Style

Sheppard Limited Edition Wheels

The "Skull Attack Series", which are the wheels that I used, look pretty cool. I used Ted Degros' pro wheel. It's got a stylized drawing of an owl, with a skull, kinda screaming on the side. That might sound a little less cool than it actually is! Most of these wheels actually look pretty sweet.

In my opinion, the Limited Edition Corey Sheppard looks sweet (they're made with blue urethane), and the "Steven Seagull" wheels are unique (Steven Segal's head on a seagull...), and ALL of the Limited Edition wheels look sexy (a couple of hollow core wheels, and some soft core wheels called "Bear Balls" that look sick.

Plus, the little Momentum monster guy is kinda cool...

Momentum Skateboard Wheels - Skate Team

The Momentum skate team should tell you how good the wheels are. This might sound like hype to some of you readers, especialy parents! But here's the truth behind it - pro skaters need to have quality equipment. Otherwise, they won't be pro skaters for long. So, when a good skater joins a team and takes on a product sponsorship, then it's like they are saying, "It's good enough for me!"

Of course, when mediocre skaters take on sponsorships, or when the sponsorships have nothing to do with skateboarding, then that probably means that skater just wants money or free gear. For example, just because Monster energy drink sponsors someone, it doesn't mean that drinking Monster will make you a better skater. That's just what Monster wants you to think!

So who are the skaters in the Momentum team? Guys like Rick McCrank, Brandon Biebel, Chris Haslam, Corey Sheppard and Ted Degros. They have a bunch of less known guys they sponsor, too, but those are some of the big names.

So, all of this info is great, but should you buy yourself a set of Momentum skateboard wheels?

Sure! Unless you want to spend more to get some "high tech" wheels, or unless you just don't like their style, there's no reason not to. And, they have a cool, classy style that's all their own.
