How Do I Store a Skateboard, or Skateboard Decks?

By Steve Cave, About.com

Question: How Do I Store a Skateboard, or Skateboard Decks?

I've been asked what the best way to store skateboards and skateboard decks over the winter is. My first answer is "don't store 'em - ride 'em!" Check out What Skateboarding Can I Do When It's Cold, Wet, Raining, Snowy and Winter? for some ideas. But, sometimes you still might want to or need to store a skateboards or some decks, and you want to make sure they don't get warped or damaged. So, how do you do it?

Answer: First off, you want to make sure that your skateboards and decks are kept dry. Don't store them outside during wet weather, even if they are under a tarp, or on an open porch. The wet air will, over time, warp the board. Remember that skateboard decks are basically wood, and wood gets damaged when left out in the elements too long.

Second, it would be best if you kept your skateboards and decks in a place that has the temperature controlled. Extreme cold and heat can damage the wood of skateboards just as easily as moisture. Plus, the cold can damage other skateboard parts as well.

So, all this boils down to the best places to store your skateboards and decks being spots like closets, maybe the garage, or even under your bed. Do NOT put your skateboard out on the porch all winter, and expect it to be just fine when the sun comes out! Remember, skateboards are highly technical devices, and usually aren't too cheap - treat your skateboard well, and you will ride it longer, and have more fun. Respect your board!
