Heel Edge - Skateboarding Dictionary

Heel Edge

Heel Edge
Definition: Heel Edge refers to the edge of a skateboard, snowboard or surfboard in front of the rider's heels.

When turning on a board, if the rider leans on the heel edge, or "digs in" on the heel edge, the board will turn in the direction of the rider's heels. This is a fundamental truth for all board sports.

The opposite of Heel Edge is Toe Edge.

Also Known As: Heel Edge, Heelside (though this is technically something different)
Examples:
"Jackson leaned back, pushed down on his heel edge hard, and powerslided to a stop half a foot from the parked car."
