Nike 6.0 Oncore - Nike Oncore 6.0 skateboarding shoe review

Nike

The Bottom Line

Nike 6.0 Oncores are skateboarding shoes with a little extra. Whether you hate the idea of Nike making skate shoes or not, the bottom line is that the new Nike Oncores are great shoes for skateboarding, with extra reinforcement, action leather and suede uppers, and great grippy soles. Nike 6.0 Oncores have padding where you want it, breathe, and are fully skatable. The style is a little unique, but not ugly (something that Nike Skateboarding shoes get bashed for a lot).
Pros
  • Comfortable - thick padded tongue and heel collar, and Zoom Air heel cushion
  • Breathable - nice Nike-style mesh tongue and perforated toe area
  • Good skate features - protected forward laces, double stitched suede toe cap, etc.
  • Grippy - Nike 6.0's special brand of grippy rubber on the soles
Cons
  • Not the strongest - toes and sides are thin, and aren't made for hard and heavy skating

Description

  • Low Profile - without sacrificing cushioning (Zoom airbag in heel)
  • Flexible - grooves set into the forefoot allow flexibility
  • Reinforced toecap uses TPU injection to help resist blowouts
  • Thick padded perforated breathable tongue with internal stabiliser straps
  • Padded heel collar
  • Internal lower lace loops help protect laces
  • Availalbe in cool, unique color schemes
  • Worn by Nike BMX rider Garret Reynolds

Guide Review - Nike 6.0 Oncore - Nike Oncore 6.0 skateboarding shoe review

Nike 6.0 is a new branch of Nike shoes, designed for active, action sports fanatics. Most people who skate also love other action sports, and you never know which ones. This fusion of passions - skaters who ride Motocross, snowboarders who surf, jock-nerd-punk fusions, or anything else you can think of are the inspiration for Nike's new 6.0 lineup.

Nike 6.0 Oncores are honestly good skateboarding shoes. They have all the mainstays of skate shoes - thick padded tongues and heel collars, grippy sole, tongue stabilizers, reinforced toe cap and even a little extra layer set on the outside near the toes, to help the shoes survive a few extra kickflips.

For extra bonuses, the Nike 6.0 Oncores are comfortably breathable, with the mesh tongue that Nike likes to slap onto their skate shoes. There are also internal "lace restraints" (loops for your laces), for the lowest two lace holes to help your laces live longer.

For drawbacks, I see only one. The thickness of the toe caps and the side panels make me nervous about blowouts. In testing, my Nike Oncores never had a problem, but I think with time, if you are an especially aggressive / hard skater, you will blow these shoes out fast. On the other hand, in testing this didn't happen...

For style, Nike Oncores have a great unique look, and some cool color schemes. In all, I think Nike 6.0 Oncores are good skate shoes, and I like the pair I tested. I'm nervous about how long they will last, but all skate shoes die eventually!
