I started off by asking him what his secret was. "I would say it’s consistency in my skating," Ryan answered. "And having fun." Ryan Sheckler's style of fun spreads beyond skateboarding. He also loved Moto-Cross (MX), movies and fast music. But his skateboarding is his real passion, and it shows. Ryan Sheckler was nominated in 2004 for the "Alternative Sportsperson of the Year Award."
I asked Ryan what advice he would you give to the kid who wants to be the next Ryan Sheckler. He stated, "Don’t ever give up. You gotta keep trying, and never give up." I asked him what keeps him going, and he laughed, "Adrenaline!" Then he added, "Knowing that each day can be better than the last day."
In 2003, Ryan Sheckler exploded the competitive skateboarding scene at X-Games, Gravity Games and the Vans Triple Crown (he was also the only skater to land every trick he tried at the summer X-Games in 2003). I asked him if he expected to be here. "I always thought it would happen, just not so soon!" he said. Even though he's young, Ryan's been skating for a long time now. "When I turned seven I got my first sponsor, IWS Boardshop." He now has over 14 sponsors.
