This is a huge board, 60” by 10” and all comprised of 11ply birch. That is one big board, and visually it’s hard to get over while looking at it. The sheer length is only punctuated by how wide it is. You got plenty of room to move all over it.
First produced by Flexdex in 1999, the Pro-60 was a best seller for Flexdex from 2000 to 2003. The board was decorated with a simple color string and a Flexdex logo. The board had wheel cut outs made just for the trucks and size wheels that came with it. The Flexdex line was and is today comprised of primarily near bullet proof composite materials, for a unique flex. The Pro-60 although was wood, was also known for one thing.
Flex, and more flex, the sheer size of the deck and the 11ply birch construction all came together to be one of the flexiest decks in any size class. The board was known for belly slapping at the slightest downpressure to the deck, insanely hard carving was able to be accomplished by the sheer amount of flex and compression on the trucks. The wheel wells allowed the trucks to turn to the limit and load into carves and lock as the deck slides. The general temperament of riders who ripped on this massive beast were usually surfers looking for a walking board (before it was called dancing) the flex of the board helped to soften walking and the deep wheel wells allowed you to wander on the board with ease without fear of getting wheel bite. Back when Kelly Slater was with Flexdex this was known to be one of his favorite boards, he had his own model inlaid with exotic woods and he loved to rip it. There is little about this board that was minute in any manner, it was a massive hunk of wood, slapped with trucks and adorned with wheels. The entire assembly came together for an eye catching, car filling, and board walking good time. People who owned these boards would literally ride them into the ground, belly splinters covered by duct tape, still riding, still cruising and still loving their massive boards.
You are wondering where you can get a massive beast of a board? There are many out there, but none are as simply… long and flexy, as the Pro-60 was. Flexdex resurfaced and their primary line is now comprised of only their composite style boards, however chances are you will see Flexdex re-release this board in the near future. The recent emergence of “Dancing” or board walking has made big board’s en-vogue again. Many of the larger boards are more evolved that the Pro-60 was, but back then, back when the Pro 60 reigned on the boardwalks, back allies and hills of southern California; Size did matter.
The Pro-60 is in the top 10 longboards EVER list.
