The 1st Step: Basic Tricks skateboarding instructional video is supposed to teach the basic beginner tricks of skateboarding. While 1st Step: Basic Tricks does look good and cover some important tricks, for the most part the 1st Step series is mediocre at best. The video gets choked with extra stuff, and the instruction could go a little deeper. However, 1st Step isn't badly done - in fact, the video editing is great, and some of the tricks are rare to find teaching on. Read this review!
Powell Basic Training Plus Video Review
The Powell Basic Training Plus DVD is a library of short instructional clips on how to pull off the most popular skateboarding tricks of today. Pros like Steve Caballero, Andy Macdonald and Danny Wainwright explain how to do the trick, and demonstrate it from various angles. The Powell Basic Training Plus DVD has all 18 tricks from the original Basic Training VHS video, plus 11 additional tricks from the 2003 Powell team. It’s a good instructional skate video, but best for intermediate skaters.

Skateboarding Explained is a simple walkthrough DVD for beginner or intermediate skateboarders. But, this skateboarding instructional video is different from other how-to-skateboard movies on the market – instructor and pro skater Dan Macfarlane takes a lot of time to walk truly beginner skaters through the basics and fundamentals, really getting down to what you truly need to know to be a great skater. Skateboarding Explained is very well made, with help for anyone.

Tony Hawk teaches how to buy a skateboard, the basics to riding a skateboard, and some tricks that new skateboarders want to learn. Tony Hawk presents all of this in a fun and comfortable way, with extra little bits of skateboarding info and knowledge added along the way. Tony Hawk's Trick Tips Volume One is a great video for learning the basics of skateboarding, and is fun to watch.

Tony Hawk's Trick Tips Volume Two follows on the heels of the first Tony Hawk instructional skateboarding video. If you've mastered the basics, then this might be the next video for you. Volume Two continues the in most of the style of Volume One, keeping everything light, comfortable and approachable. It's not quite as well done as the first, but should still be useful for skaters who want more challenge.

In Tony Hawk's Trick Tips Volume 3, the Secrets of Skateboarding video, Tony Hawk goes back several decades and teaches how to do some old school street skateboarding tricks, along with some more vert tricks. Tony Hawk's Trick Tips Volume 3 continues in the comfortable, approachable skateboarding instruction that the first two videos have, and covers a lot of material that makes it easy to recommend for intermediate skateboarders.
Transworld Show Me The Way Advanced Instructional DVD Review
Show Me the Way is an advanced skateboarding instructional video, made by Transworld Skateboarding. This DVD covers 16 hard skateboarding tricks, from 360 flips to darkslides. Each trick is taught by a different pro skateboarder, and while the instructions could stand to be a little deeper, Show Me the Way would certainly help any intermediate skater who wants to take it to the next level. Plus, with all of the pros in Show Me the Way, this video is cool to watch!
