Right when you finish talking with Mindy, you’ll need to start proving to the other Hollywood street skaters that you have mad skills. One such challenge is directly across from you. Challenges and in-game missions are always denoted with a pink star above their heads. Walk up to these people and talk to them to trigger the gameplay mission.
This first spike-haired guy, Ian, tells you that he’ll teach you how to CAVEMAN if you introduce him to Mindy. Bust your caveman (which allows you to step off the board and run on the ground). Now Ian will challenge you to GRIND, and then grind on the rails like he does. CAVEMAN off the skateboard and then press the GRIND button to grind the rail. Throughout the game, American Wasteland’s challenges always make it clear which buttons you should be pressing and when you should be pressing them, so if you have any confusion, just follow the onscreen directions.
Congrats! You’ve just passed your first gameplay challenge. Now Mindy invites you to head back to the skate shop. Turn to your right and skate till you hit the intersection, and then make another right. You can also use the game’s radar at the top of the screen – just make for the pink star. (You can also press the PAUSE button for a more detailed map.)
