A few years ago, Hui Yan, a research chemist from Emory University, turned his intellect to a puzzling question: how can non-skateboarders enjoy the cool feeling of surfing on land without the bumpy ride or the need to constantly push off the ground?

Enter the PUMGO. Like skateboards, PUMGOs have a regular sized 7 ply deck and four wheels, but that’s where the similarities end. These boards are “push-free,” which allows the rider to drive the board forward simply by pumping the deck. A unique mechanism transfers this motion through a 4WD system that propels the board. These features bring the fun and speedy convenience of a skateboard to those who look at regular skateboards and think, “I’ll break my neck on that thing.”

In recent demos, it has proven to be a popular new gadget with young and old as well as with ramp-riding skaters. Candace Vermillion, 15, who has been skating at her local park for 2 years, describes riding the new device. “It’s sweet to be able to ride all over the flats without ever touching the ground, but best of all, it adds a new element when I flow over the ramps, pyramids, and quarter pipes. It’s fun.”

Dr. Richard Teach, 66, a marketing professor at Ga. Tech noted, “I was flabbergasted at how easy it was to ride, and I’m certainly not a skateboarder.” “My 5 year old grandson loved it too, so this would be a great activity for us to do together”, he adds.

Seasoned skateboarders will appreciate the PUMGO's 7-ply fully interchangable skateboard deck. The deck is as strong as most other skateboards, and can be replaced with a skater's favorite brand of board.

The PUMGO is available online at PUMGO.com and at select retailers (find a list of these retailers on the PUMGO website).
