May Skateboard Calendar

Asia X Games were held in 2009 on May 1-3 in Shanghai, China. The 2010 dates have yet to be announced.

An extension of the Dew Tour in Beijing, China, held from May 8-10 in 2009 (2010 dates have yet to be announced). This is a men's street and vert skateboarding contest, and in 2009 was held at the Beijing University of Technology Gymnasium.

The Central Valley AM JAM is a series of four contests beginning with a kick off party and comp in Atwater March 13, 2010. Then the series starts in Riverbank, Ca on April 17th, 2010, then continuing onto Tracy, Ca on May 15th 2010. The next stop is Ripon, Ca on June 19, 2010 and then last but not least Ceres, Ca. on July 17, 2010. Prizes are provided by sponsoring board shops as well as participating sponsors.

At each stop the 5 five age groups 9 and under, 10-12, 13-15, 16-17, and 18+.  Each contest runs from 10 AM to 4 PM, costs $15 to enter, and helmets are required.  Each first place skater in each division will qualify for a chance to skate in the Maloof Money Cup amature street competition.

The Monster Skate Contest is an amateur skate competition series held throughout San Luis Obispo County in California.  This is a six-contest series, starting on March 27th 2010 in Atascadero, and continuing over the next two months.  The contest has a $15 entry fee, and you need to be wearing appropriate safety gear.

The series ends in May, with the following events:

• MAY 8 at Grover Beach
• MAY 22 at San Luis Obispo
• MAY 29 at Los Osos

Grind For Life is an organization that helps people with cancer, especially those who travel long distances to treatments. Grind For Life holds a series of 3 contests - May 22nd 2010 will see a contest at the Naples Skate Park in Naples, Florida. This is a street contest. Call (239) 213-3027 for more into.

Grind For Life was founded in 2003 by life-long skateboarder Mike Rogers, after his second battle with sarcoma cancer. The mission of the Grind For Life organization is to provide financial assistance to cancer patients and their families when traveling long distances to doctors and hospitals. In addition, we educate and inspire these patients and families concerning cancer survival and recovery.

All performances are free with park admission or a season pass and include an opportunity for autographs and photos after each show. Park tickets are available at a $15.00 discount off front gate prices if purchased online at www.visitkingsisland.com.

SCJ is postponed again. It was supposed to move back to Vancouver for 2008, from May 23rd to 25th, and be combined with the Hastings Bowl. But, wonder of wonder, it's been postponed again. Ever since the contest came under new ownership, it's had issues. Also known as the North American Skateboard Championships, SCJ been around since 1994, and is (or was) the longest running skateboarding event in North America. Now it is postponed until 2010., but the 2010 dates haven't been announced yet.
