From Gravity Games and OLN, for About.com

Aug 20 2008
STAMFORD, Conn. – August 23, 2004 ─ Outdoor Life Network announces that, for the first time ever, women’s skateboarding will be a medal event at the Gravity Games. Additionally, athletes will be competing for their part of the largest prize purse ever offered in women’s skateboarding - $12,500 total. The 2004 Summer Gravity Games presented by Saturn – the world’s leading action sports competition – will take place from September 15th - 19th on Cleveland’s North Coast Harbor.

Ten female athletes will show off their skills on the Gravity Games Pro Street Course and vie for part of the record purse. Top qualifying athletes include Vanessa Torres, Lauren Perkins and Lyn-z Adams Hawkins. While many other action sports events are limiting their competitor fields, the Gravity Games continues to put athletes first by adding events and expanding competitor fields, giving more action sports athletes the chance to compete.

“Women's Skateboarding has progressed immensely in recent years and these athletes deserve a forum to showcase their talent," said Gravity Games Competitions Manager Dave McKay. "We hope the prize purse will motivate more female athletes to pursue their talents and passions, in turn providing positive role models for aspiring female athletes in action sports.”

All Gravity Games tickets are general admission and seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. Individual day tickets are $12. Fans can also take advantage of the discounted four-day general admission ticket package for $40. Tickets will be available through Ticketmaster at 216-241-5555 or by calling any Ticketmaster charge-by-phone number and online at Ticketmaster.

In addition to the live action, fans can tune in to OLN® to see 17 hours of original Gravity Games coverage, beginning with a two-hour preview show on September 20th at 9:00 PM ET/8:30 PM PT. From September 21st – 25th, the Gravity Games Skateboarding, BMX and Freestyle Motocross competitions will air each night at 8:00 PM ET/8:30 PM PT. The coverage will include highlights from the concerts and activities surrounding the event. A highlight program on CBS will air on Sunday, September 26th (check local listing for tune-in information). Encore coverage will make for a total of more than 70 hours of the Gravity Games on OLN.
