2005 was an incredible year for skateboarding, from record breaking competitions to world record breaking stunts in the world of Pro Skateboarding:

Dew Action Sports Tour

The Dew Action Sports Tour started up this year, and was hugely successful. The Dew Tour kicked off with the Panasonic Open in Louisville, Kentucky from June 9th to 12th, and toured around the US for a total of five stops. Ryan Sheckler destroyed the competition, taking first in Skateboarding Park, while Bucky Lasek took first in Skateboarding Vert. Etnies Bowlmasters

The Etnies Bowlmasters were held at the Cradle in Brixlegg, Austria from June 17th to 19th. Omar Hassan and Benji Galloway won first and second in the men’s finals, Caylen Dakin won first in womens, Julien Benoliel won best trick (no handed nose pick transfer) and Tony Truillo took best line. Quiksilver Bowl Riders

Quiksilver Bowl Riders was held in Marseille, France from June 24th to 26th. Omar Hassan won, followed by Alex Coccini in second and Tony Trujillo in third. See Results.

Gravity Games

This is the seventh year for the Gravity Games, now part of the Outdoor Life Network. Summer Gravity Games are split into two sessions. the first was at Camp Woodward in Woodward, PA from June 25th to 29th, where Bike Vert, Skate Vert, and Freestyle Motocross took place. The second session was at Philadelphia, PA from July 11th to 13th, and featured Skate Park and True Street along with Bike Dirt and Park.

Munster Monster Mastership

The Munster Monster Mastership was held in Munster, Germany (July 1st through 3rd). Daniel Vieira won first in street, Sandro Dias took first in vert, Elissa Steamer won first in ladies street and Karen Jones took first for ladies vert. Read results and news.

Mystic Sk8 Cup

The Mystic Sk8 Cup was held July 8th to 10th at Mystic skate park in Prague. This was the 12th year of this event, and it was a a great one again this year with music, art, everything. This is one of the most popular skate competitions in Europe. Visit the MSC site.

Danny Way Jumping the Great Wall of China

Not a skateboarding competition, but a halmark event for 2005 - on July 9th, Danny Way jumped the Great Wall of China. Danny Way already held the world records for distance (24 meters / 79 feet) and unaided height (7.14 meters / 23.5 feet) while skateboarding, but that wasn't enough. Today, Danny Way set a new world record. Danny Way is the first person to leap the wall without a motor vehicle and land successfully (read more).

Nokia FISE

The Nokia FISE (Festival International Sports Extreme) was held from July 15th to 17th in Montpellier, France. This event will covered more than skateboarding. Visit the FISE site for more info (the site is in French).

X Games 11

The X Games is the culmination of the year's World Cup Skateboarding events. This year, the X-Games were held from August 4th to August 7th in Los Angeles. As usual, the X Games were incredible. Thousands of people packed in to watch the pros at work. Slam City Jam

The Month of August rounded out the huge name skateboarding competitions in North America with the 12th annual Slam City Jam in Vancouver, BC. The weekend kicked off August 25th with the DC Nationals, and then August 26th to 28th the pure skateboarding competitions raged. Take a look at the Slam City Jam Photo Gallery for more info.

2005 was an incredible year for professional skateboarding all over the world - I can't wait to see what's in store for 2006!
