Skateboarders Fight for Skatepark Freedom Against Senate Bill 994
For a while now, skaters in California have been fighting a war against Senate Bill 994, which requires skateboarders to wear helmets and pads when riding in skateparks, and holds a heavy fine for skateboarders who don't, sometimes around $400. This places skateboarding in the unique category of being the only sport in California with equipment requirements that are enforceable by police. Gravity Games Women's Competition Worth Big Bucks
For the first time ever, women’s skateboarding will be a medal event at the Gravity Games. Additionally, athletes will be competing for their part of the largest prize purse ever offered in women’s skateboarding - $12,500 total. The 2004 Summer Gravity Games presented by Saturn – the world’s leading action sports competition – will take place from September 15th - 19th on Cleveland’s North Coast Harbor. Read more.

Emerica's Wild Ride Tour
Die-hard riders flocked to see the Emerica team come thundering into skateboard parks across the Midwest on their Harley-Davidsons, as part of the Wild Ride tour. The energy of the crowds was raw and powerful, with anywhere from 700 spectators in Denver at the kick-off on Sunday June 11, to an average of 300 - 400 at smaller stops throughout the week. X Games 12 staff is looking to the local and regional communities for people who are willing to volunteer for a full day, assisting in this multi-event action sports competition. Several day-long volunteer positions are available including: hospitality, crowd control, ushering, access control and credential checking. The X Games also offer the XCEL program, designed for dedicated individuals who are willing to volunteer every day from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., August 2-6.
