Artwork of Socalia and Vegalas Cards - Continued

This first series of STOKED! – Skateboarding Must Die – also features drawings of Brian Sumner and Willy Santos. Of course, these are just cartoons of the guys, but they look pretty good. The combo cards actually show different steps of the same huge trick sequence, so if you line them up, they end up looking pretty cool. Of course, to get an entire 8 card sequence, you’re gonna need to do some trading with friends, or buy a bunch of cards!

For parents – STOKED! is, for the most part, very clean. Instead of drugs, the characters eat sugar. While there are explosions, no one is ever really hurt. Some of the art can look harsh, and the women will be busty (see picture) – other than that, the game is clean.

When buying cards, here’s a word of warning – make sure you get at least some cards from the Vegalas set. The Socalia set is sweet, but the cards are all a little harder to pull off – they have higher Stoke requirements (think “difficulties”). Plus there aren’t any Ramp tricks in the Socalia set. Socalia cards are great to add to an already functional deck of Vegalas cards though, and you can mix these cards up all you want. They have different backs, but that doesn’t really matter for game play (the Birdhouse cards have their own special backs anyway).
The guys at STOKED! say that in the future, there will be other skate brands added in along with Birdhouse. Who? They aren’t saying yet. But if this game takes off, I’m sure you’ll see a lot of other pros and sponsors added in. I mean, they started on the right foot with Birdhouse, and Sumner and Santos.

If you like CCGs and you skate, then STOKED! is the one for you. If you’ve outgrown Yugioh, but miss collecting and playing games like that, try STOKED! The game comes in small expansion boxes that only cost a few bucks (there is no "starter deck" to buy), and each one gives you 14 game cards, 1 rare Birdhouse card, 2 cash cards, a “kicker” and more. It’ll probably take you several boxes to get a good deck going, but with some friends to trade with, you should be able to play fairly well after spending around 12 bucks. Of course, to have the coolest deck around, you’ll want to spend more … Check it out, and see what you think!
