Guide Review - Video - The Search for Animal Chin
If you don't own or haven't seen this video, you need to get it. The skating is smooth, low and most of all fun. The trend today in skate videos seems to be to show raw footage from one skater, trick after trick, set to music. In Animal Chin, you see a group of five friends, all skating from location to location, laughing, and having a great time. There's plenty of great footage, but it's all set together with a certain relaxed feeling. It's a great way to make a video. I had a great time watching it, laughing at the cheesy jokes, being blown away that these guys were ever that young (Tony Hawk looks hilarious), and thinking about how awesome the 80s were. This is a time when skating was getting re-defined, skaters were serious enough, but there wasn't so much junk to deal with. It was all about fun.
The filming does feel cheaper, and the acting is so bad it's even funnier. But that all adds to the feel. The whole thing has a young, alive feeling to it. If you haven't seen this video, you have to get it.
