Tune Up Your Skateboard for Spring

By March 6, 2013

Jamie O'ClockIt's that time of year again!  Here on the Northern half of the planet, winter is fading into spring. Or it's going out kicking and screaming. Either way, it's going to be sunny and warm soon, and here in Oregon I'm already seen more and more skaters on the streets every day! I love spring!

If your skateboard has been stored away all winter, now is a good time to take it out and tune it up. Here are a couple of simple and cheap things you can do yourself to make sure your skateboard is ready for work:

  • Replace Your Bushings - the bushings are the little rubber donut-like parts in your trucks. They can get worn out or stiffen up, and replacing them can add miles to your trucks.
  • Clean Your Bearings - bearings get gunk and junk in 'em, and that cuts down your speed and maneuverability. Cleaning them out is a cinch, and a LOT cheaper than replacing them!

For more articles like this, check out Skateboarding Building and Maintenance - you can learn all about taking your skateboard apart and putting it back together.  If you have any suggestions to add, leave a comment below!
