A reader wrote in and asked, "I'm a thirteen year old girl and I picked up skateboarding a few months ago. I don't really think I'm going to get far if I don't ever go to a skatepark. Well, there is a problem with that. I am deathly afraid of skateparks. I am deathly afraid of people. Do you really have to go to a skatepark? I mean it would be kinda weird to never know how to roll down a ramp and that's why I am stressing about it. Any advice?"
Interesting situation! The short answer is "nope", but there's a lot more to that, isn't there? So, I wrote up a new FAQ, Do I HAVE to Skate at Skateparks to Be a Skater? Take a look, and if you have any ideas to add to this, please comment below!
This also go me thinking, I wonder how much you guys skate at skateparks, versus street or longboarding or who knows what else? So, here's a new poll! Vote! Do it! You know you want to!

I’d say yeah, it ain’t necessary to go to skateparks, but as Steve says if you go you can have a lot of fun. My advice is you can start little by litle, making friends, for example. Once you have friends everything becomes easy. In general, skaters are good guys and they are willing to help you if you ask, It hapenned to me and I was 46 when I decide to go back to the board.. Take it easy man and good luck.
I would honestly rather go to a street spot than a skatepark.
Skateparks are always full of people, and since this whole scooter thing has gotten big all I see is kids on them.
definitely don’t have to go to a skate park, there are plenty of places on the street that skateboards can be used to their best ability. if you’re not comfortable with skateparks then you’re not going to improve at one.
