Getty Images / Yuri ArcursI'm starting a new series here that I'm calling "Skateboard 101", to help brand new skaters get a handle on the massive and often confusing world of skateboarding.

Part One covers skateboard slang. This can be good for new skaters, or for the parents of skaters who just want to understand what their skater kid is talking about! Take a look and read Skateboard Slang. It covers slang words for skateboards, skaters, and slang words that skaters use. This article isn't meant for you to read to be able to ACT like a skater, it's meant for people to understand skaters more, and for new skaters to understand their friends. After you've read it, read Skateboard 101: Part Two - Skateboard Style

Got any words that you think should be added? Post them below! If you post an especially sick one, I'll add it to the list!

Great idea Steve! Here’s a quick list I made, that I didn’t see:
- Skateboard: Axe, Shred sled. (over the top descriptions)
- Kook: Dork, odd ball, misfit etc.
- Vibe/Vibing: to send out bad “vibes” to other skaters, or to receive them. Very popular in the 90’s.
- Park Rat: someone who skates parks all the time. May not be able to skate real street.
- Mini Ramp Champ: Someone who is good at mini ramp.
- Aggro: to be aggressive on your board, or to become aggravated with your board, or people.
- Grom/Grommet: a little young skater.
- Tech: used describing a technical trick and/or skater.
- Ripping/ shredding: used to describe a person who is skating well. Usually a well rounded skater.
- Mongo: an unorthodox way of pushing your board.
- Focus: to stomp your board purposely to break it. “I focused my board, dude!” Jeremy Klein Focused Rodney’s board for Rocco.
- AND the most important one “Extreme!” hahahaha! Just kidding! :-)
