Stoked Mentoring teaches kids and adults to skate and live!

The Stoked Mentoring program teams up adults with kids, using skateboarding as the medium. Neither the adults or the kids have to know how to skateboard - the point is that they learn together, and the adult gets to be a model to the young person, getting opportunities to speak into the younger skater's life. Here's how the describe it:
"We are looking for great mentors for our youth. The type of person we are interested in will be highly motivated, dependable, reliable, stable, and consistent in their lives. In addition, you will be able to challenge all of your pre-conceptions of relationships, communication, and what you want out of your life. The great thing is that you learn these life skills while snowboarding, skateboarding, and surfing with a youth."They need volunteers in New York, and the program is expanding. Check out the Stoked Mentoring website for more info. You can also donate money, or donate time doing other things to help to program run besides being a mentor.

This is an amazing program! It is both NY and LA based. I am a first year mentor with STOKED and it is wonderful. Everyone involved is amazing. Their is nothing better than seeing the kids learn and grow along with the adults!
