Futures Am Series 2009

Tuesday March 24, 2009
NHSSA - National High School Skateboard AssociationIf you aren't familiar with it, the National High School Skateboard Association was started a couple of years ago by Jeff Stern. The organization provides high school students in California with the chance to join skate clubs as the "sport" they participate in at school. The sweet thing about this organization is that the students are free to skate as much as they want, and they aren't burdened with rules or restrictions in their skateboarding. Plus, the top skaters get a shot at the X Games!

So far the NHSSA has grown large enough to support two regions, and each one has three contests at the end of the series. These contests are called the Futures Am Series:

  • April 25th – REGION #1 (EVENT #1) at SKATELAB
  • May 2nd – REGION #2 (EVENT #1) at the Culver City Skatepark
  • May 9th - Region #1 (Event #2) at the Fillmore Skatepark
  • May 23rd - Region #2 (Event #2) at the Garvonza Skatepark
  • May 30th - Region #1 (Event #3) at SKATELAB
  • June 6th - Region #2 (Event #3) at Belvedere Skatepark
  • June 14th - VIP Pre-Finals Practice Session at Hurley Headquarters in Costa Mesa
  • June 20th - The top 10 teams from each region move onto the finals at Hurley Headquarters in Costa Mesa
  • June 25th - X Games 15 ticket sales kickoff ESPN Zone / Nokia plaza downtown. Top 5 individual skaters demo, 3-5 PM
  • August - the end of Season Event - X Games 15 - The top 20 individual skaters will receive invitations to compete at the X Games!
