Photo by Anna Molander / Getty ImagesMartin asks, "Im a big guy for skating , 6' 2", and I have size 12 feet. I haven't met any skaters as tall as me. I know that Tony Hawk and Andrew Reynolds are big guys, so its no excuse. I was wondering if a bigger skater should approach skating differently?" I get this question a lot, actually. Being a bigger guy just means you’ll have to work harder. Your center of gravity is a lot higher so you’ll fall easier, plus if you are heavier you’ll have to ... read What should big or tall skaters do when learning to skateboard?

Sup bro,
I’m UK size 13 which I think is exactly the same thing in the U.S. being a bigfoot guy gave me hell in skating until I tried 7.90 inch / 8 inch width boards. Now I skate much easier than i did before and I’m uber comfy on my board because im not on my friggin tiuptoes at all times =]

Im 23, Height 6′2″, weight 180 lbs, shoes 12 U.S. I have skated my whole life but only recently have tried to learn to ollie. it is f$@%#*g tough, i can tell if its my age or size…. both. I got a 7.5 deck. Maybe i should get a bigger one? how big?

March 19, 2011 at 8:43 pm
(22) Steve says:

Nate, it’s just a tough trick to learn. Your age and size aren’t helping you, but you can still do it – I learned to Ollie pretty late too. You could totally get a bigger board, and it might help, but the best bet is to stick with it!! Keep trying!

(23) Alex says:

Yeah dude I’m six feet and have a size 14 or sometimes 15 shoe. It’s easy to find skate shoes in large sizes so that’s not a problem. One thing you should do is get a size 8 board I kept trying to skate a 7.75 til a friend lent me an 8 and in much better now. One thing to remember is if you find yourself landing kickflips with only 1 foot start doing them sex change it’s makes it so much easier. Good luck

(24) Alex says:

Hey I’m a a 6′ 1″ sponsored skater. I have a size thirteen shoe. I’ll I have to say is skate your own style as a big man. I do kick flips and heel flips totally differently from anyone else. make sure you get like an 8.25 deck with some heavier trucks. This will make it easier to to land tricks and get higher ollies without bailing. Hope this helps
