The National High School Skateboard Association
In the spring of 2007, the first season of team high school skateboarding was launched. It was called the California High School Skateboard Club (CHSSC).After only a few months, club creator Jeff Stern became very aware that he had started something big. People all over the US heard about the club, and wanted in. With strong interest outside California the name had be changed to the National High School Skateboard Association (NHSSA).
The 2008 season was a massive success, with over 20 high school teams signed up. You can read all about it in the 2008 NHSSA Season Recap.
For the 2009 season, the NHSSA has exploded all over Southern California. The 2008 season held contests in some incredible places that offered a variety of skateable terrain, and the level of skateboarding eclipsed the 2007 season. For 2009, there will be three "regions" competiting for top honors - the North Los Angeles Region, Central Los Angeles Region, and South Los Angeles Region. Each region will have 15 high school teams!
The winners will advance through the season, winning possible invitations to compete in the X Games! In an effort to keep increasing the level of talent, only the best schools will advance throughout the season. The regular season in each region will be cut to a two event season. After two events, the top five teams from each region will move on to compete in a semi-final event to determine which high schools will move onto the finals. When the dust clears, the best individual skaters will receive invitations to compete at the X Games, and the Active Am competition!
