Timmy Knuth - From Flow to Pro
There's a Cinderella story that happened at this year's AST Dew Tour finals that I wanted to make sure you all heard about. It's the story of Timmy Knuth.Timmy is an amateur skater. He loves skateboarding, but is too young to have much exposure yet. But he's good.
The AST Dew Tour is a pretty amazing machine. It's not just some lame contest that's trying to milk money out of action sports. The Dew Tour pumps a lot of money into the local skateboard scenes of the cities it goes to, holding smaller local competitions and what not. They also do this thing called the Free Flow Tour.
The Free Flow Tour is for amateur skaters, like Timmy Knuth. Younger skaters (18 or under) who want to compete for fun. The Free Flow Tour has piles of stops all over the US, all summer long, and to compete is cheap ($10). Plus every skater gets to take home something (T-shirt, other stuff). The Free Flow Tour is also all about getting these younger skaters seen. If you do well, you can win yourself a ride to the Free Flow Finals, and from there, the winner gets a wild card spot in the final stop of the AST Dew Tour itself, the Playstation Pro!
Usually, the skater who has busted into this spot gets swallowed up by the huge skill difference between amateur and pro skaters. But not this year! This year, young Timmy Knuth from central Florida took FOURTH PLACE at the Playstation Pro! FOURTH. He beat RYAN SHECKLER (who was having an off day, to be fair, but still!!).
Can you imagine?! This is the dream, guys! This is it! Have you ever wondered how you could get noticed? There are opportunities all around, and one is this Free flow Tour! Skate all winter, and go attack it next summer! Stories like this make my mind explode - how can some young skater punk from who-knows-where just ride in and take FOURTH PLACE?? Wow! If he can, maybe you can too?

Yeah, this kind of stuf motivates me to push harder when I skate. Timmy Knuth is a friend of mine I skate with him at graffiti skate zone in Palm bay florida all the time. It is amazing how one of my friends places second out of all the pros in the qualifiers, then takes fourth in the finals. I have his run that got him into the final jam, I recorded it when I was there at the Dew tour to watch timmy. If you want to see it, it is here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oPqIFscCKI I hope someone actually reads this comment i just wated a good 3 mins writing it lol
Timmy is truly a motivational story. He’s a local skater here in the Florida skate scene and he’s finally getting the recognition he deserves. He just placed 4th at Volcom Damn Am and I’m looking forward to seeing him skate at Tampa AM. I’ve seen Timmy progress over the years, it truly shows that it’s all about having fun, this kid just loves to skate, with or without cameras or crowds, anyone can see he’s having a blast! Congratulations Timmy!
