Timmy Knuth takes the Free Flow Title

Tuesday September 16, 2008
The Free Flow Tour is an amateur skateboarding competition tour that winds around the US. It's tied in with the AST Dew Tour, and the winner of the Free Flow Tour gets to compete in the Dew Tour finals. It's a great way for amateur skaters to get noticed, test their skills, and to have fun!

Well, the final Free Flow competition was just held, and Florida boy Timmy Knuth won the title! Timmy skates for Graffiti in Palm Bay.

One of the moms of some of the finalasts has been talking to me about the Free Flow Tour throughout the season, and how it feels to go and be a part of it. Here are her impressions right after the last contest of the series:

"Competition was unbelievable. Probably one of the best competitions I'd ever seen. Every up & coming AM Skater throughout Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and even further was there at Mesh skatepark in Longwood. Both my kids agreed the contest was the hardest they ever competed in due to the format. First it was a 45 second run, then a "jam" but not the typical jam format, the competitors skated alone & only till they fell, however long that was! THEN it was one trick and one trick only! It really separated the ok skaters from the really good skaters for sure....once the "jam" format started, skaters dropped like flies. It's one thing to skate a jam where you can mess up and try again over & over, but to skate till you fall then it's over! Then to tell the skaters they have ONE chance only to do their best trick! They took the top 12 skaters for the finals where the format was the same. Of course there was a lot of murmuring & complaining about the format...I thought it was great because it was so difficult....there was no lucky for the day skater or local skater that does well only at that park. Our good friend Timmy Knuth made 1st at Kona.....you will definitely be hearing about him, I won't be surprised if he wins at Salt Lake City to compete at the Dew Tour, he just won the Woodward Am Jam."
Well, she was right! This year's Free Flow Tour was another huge success, and if you missed it, don't worry, there will be another one next summer. And if you are a kid, and you are having a hard time getting your parents on board, let them read what this skater mom had to say! If you went to or competed in the tour at all, it would rock to have you leave a comment below and tell everyone what you thought.

Skateboarding Explained student Ryan Thompson, who made the popular SE video testimonial, won the PlayStation Am Jam Finals 13 & Under division. Then, he was in this Free Flow finals, where he made 1st place in the Semis and ended up in 4th in the end. I feel like a proud father!
