Glifberg wins first gold medal in new event, Skateboard SuperPark

Sunday August 3, 2008
"This is my first gold, and it's only been 14 years in the making." That's what Rune Glifberg said to ESPN after winning the new X Games event, Skateboard SuperPark. Glifberg has been coming to compete on his skateboard at the X Games for 14 years, and this was his first gold medal!

Andy Macdonald came in second and won the silver, which is his 17th X Games medal won. This broke Tony Hawk's old record of 16 medals and shot Macdonald into first place in over all medals won at the X Games. Now, Macdonald is second to Dave Mirra in X Games medals won (Mirra has 22). "It's been four years trying for it and I finally got it, but man I'm tired," joked Maconald.

Tony Trujillo, who rarely competes, showed up and won third. His only other appearance at the X Games was back in 2004. Apparently, he likes Olympic years. Whatever the reason, he blasted the competition and likely raised his signature shoe sale numbers worldwide.
