Gagnon recovers from Big Air loss to win Skateboard Vert

Saturday August 2, 2008
You might notice that Pierre-Luc Gagnon's score for the Mega Ramp was a little low. It was a 1. That's because he missed the podium in the finals. Something like that can really rock a skater's confidence.

But not today.

Today, Pierre-Luc Gagnon added another X Games medal to his collection, winning the Men's Vert Finals. This brings his total up to 13 X Games medals.

"It feels amazing to be back on top," Gagnon said. "The jam format was great if you were in the zone, and I was definitely in the zone." Bucky Lasek took silver. "I wanted to go for it, but I just played it safe and ended up second. I threw in some flip tricks but it was just a matter of staying consistent." Shaun White won the bronze with a frontside heelflip body varial 540. "I pulled one of the best tricks ever," he said. "I just learned it last week. I was having nightmares about landing it, but I nailed it, so it was a home run."
