Longboarders love to hurt people?

Friday April 18, 2008
Tony Hawks Downhill Jam for Nintendo WiiI recently talked with a reader named Storm, who pointed out that there just isn't too much press out there covering the Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam game for the Nintendo Wii. I agree - I've never played it, and I don't know anyone who owns it ...

But, according to Storm, a lot of people would like the game but a certain key demographic would love it. To quote him (because you really need to hear it in his words...), Storm says,

"It's O.K., but it's not as fun as the original games. I would definitely [recommend it] for longboarding FREAKS, like IN LOVE WITH LONGBOARDING. You do tricks and you can knock people down in races, but it just gets boring and bland after a while, like you're playing the same old game, but going downhill, with different people."

Has any else out there played Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam? It slid by under the radar, especially in the shadow of SKATE and the Tony Hawk Proving Ground. Leave comments below if you've played it, and tell us what you think. Or, if you are a longboarder and want to defend your honor, by all means feel free to comment too!

i have played it once or twice. it isnt anywhere near as good as the original games. i would say its better than proving ground and project 8 though. they were both garbage. everything before those two are better than downhill jam.
the game is basically like a skateboarding version of SSX Tricky. not terrible. but it does get boring.

I actually own the game and bought it at launch, It’s not that bad as the person says, but yes knocking down pedestrians is really fun. But hey I’m not a longboarder, I’m jsut a regular Skater so I can’t quiet say I’m defending their honor or anything.

Speedboarding Downhill games would suck. Racing on a longboard in a video game wouldn’t be so great. Carving on a longboard in a video game would just be the most boring.

Yeah, why make a game of it when you can actually do it.

The game is fun though.

I still find skate. the best skate game to date, but they don’t do well at making skateparks. When are they going to put the use of sliding gloves in the game? That would make all skate games better, maybe as an unlockable.

Also, to defend my honor.

Is it even possible to knock down people going 30mph in real life? It’s actually harder than you think. The faster you go, the smaller your balance point is. 30mph is fast, but nothing yet. If you spent about $1500 on Speedboarding gear, you can hit 100mph. Few people can do that.

The average Racer does 35mph-45mph.

How about they put cross-trainers in the game?

Like the Freebord, they can set a small balancing meter when you slide.

The T-Board, they should put a balance meter to keep the sides from catching.

Or an MBS. Off-Road, Air Balance Meter, Spin Balance meter. Recover Balance meter. 8″ wheels vs the avg 2″-3″. 16″ Trucks vs the 7.5″. And Strapped Bindings. Springed trucks.

They should really put different kinds of boards into the games. That would actually make it better, more realistic at least.

Why not Deck repair, certain fast vs slow bearings, bearing repair, taking off parts to put new ones in, why not a board creator?

They should add Durometer ratings for the wheels for control and choice.

Or different bushing ratings.

Or most of all, the different kinds of skate trucks and sizes.
o o
Skate trucks have 45 vs the longboard 60 .

They should make it a lot more realistic.

More real life situations.

Just hope they don’t turn it into a boring simulator.

I’m going to Longboard now.

they should just make it more realistic like putting different ways of sliding more speed [NO TRICKS!] cause that f*cks up everything in that game for a real longboarder to play the game and they could make lik a balance meter when you catch verry high speeds like you get some kinda speed whobble…
that would make it more fun.

and btw the ability of hitting people is stupid and just puts longboards in a bad image…
