Camp Skateboarding Explained

Wednesday February 6, 2008
Camp Skateboarding ExplainedLast year I reviewed a skateboarding instructional video called Skateboarding Explained - I said it was the best skateboard teaching video I've seen. And it still is. It's been getting a lot of attention in the media and selling well, so Dan MacFarlane, the creator of the video, is offering a skateboard camp this summer in Ohio - the Skateboarding Explained Camp. Watch a little commercial for it on Grind TV. There are a lot of skateboard camps out there, but I wanted to give this one a special plug. It's new, so it's hard to say whether it will be amazing or not, but Dan is training the trainers - and with his experience in skate camps, and looking at the great DVD he made, I have a lot of hope and confidence that this will be one of the best skate camps out there this summer.

On a side note, read about how Skateboarding Explained helped the Giants win the super bowl! OK, so not really but ... well, you never know. Maybe ... just maybe ...

If you’re based in the UK, it’s worth checking out www.skatecamp.co.uk - as these are the first week long residential skate camps in the UK. Based near Coventry you’ll visit the cream of British skate parks - indoor and outdoor beauties such as Boardroom Skate Park (Leicester), Adrenalin Alley Skate Park (Corby), Creation Skate Park (Birmingham), Pioneer Skate Park (St Albans), The House Skate Park (Sheffield), Stoke on Trent Plaza, Milton Keynes Plaza, St Neots Skate Park and Oxford Skate Park. Accommodation, food, training, travel etc all included - plus there will undoubtedly be a few prizes during the week and the chance to meet some great names from the UK scene. Make new friends, learn new tricks, live and breath skateboarding. Boys and girls, ages 10+.

easter holiday (april) - mon 14th to fri 18th (available)
summer holiday (august) - mon 11th to fri 15th (available)
summer holiday (august) - mon 18th to fri 22nd (available)

The camps are run by Rubicon Skateboards, the biggest and most active provider of skateboard lessons and demo’s in the country - who have taught thousands of boys and girls of all ages and abilities, to learn to skateboard. They’ve also worked with companies such as BSkyB (on their Living for Sports project), the BBC (on their Blast Tour) and Nintendo (on the launch of their new Wii Skate game) - as well as regularly with a host of top industry names and riders.

But what about the in-experienced? I’d love to join or do something like skateboarding, but there’s nowhere to practise near me (I live in leicester, and in the middle of nowhere) and I bet I’d need someone to show me anyway coz I am just basically crap!
cheers
