These aren't just recycled board designs with Randal trucks slapped on the bottoms - the boards are high quality and their trucks are spring-loaded! Mike,
What you are trying to do is called “pumping”. Pumping allows you to propel yourself forward using thrust generated only by your body and the board (with out kicking off the ground).
Good resources can be found online via google, search “Learning to pump a skateboard” or some variation.
