Skateboarding for PE?!

Tuesday May 16, 2006
A grade school in Boulder, Colorado has actually introduced skateboarding as PE curriculum! MSNBC ran an article about the new skateboarding PE classes, and Live Science talks about the health benefits of a skateboarding gym class as well. It may seem bizarre, to try and actually teach skateboarding at school, but new programs like Skate Pass, an organization out of Boulder, CO that sells skateboarding programs for schools to use, will probably catch on in other areas as well.

What do you think about this new trend? Leave a comment below and say what you think!

It’s great! On the good side, with schools teaching it, skateboarding will become more socially accepted. Next thing you know, malls will accept skateboarding as a valid means of travel that allows people to visit more stores and spend more money! On the bad side, maybe the types of ‘personalities’ that make skateboarding what it is will pursue some other elite sport…
This park ROCKS!
